What is health screening?
Health screening differs from health surveillance in that it does not assess health in relation to job risk. Health screening is a proactive approach to effective employee health and lifestyle management and shows a commitment to employee health and welfare.
What types of health screening are available?
Why should I do health screening?
Your employees are your most valuable asset, and in today’s corporate environment, increasing pressures and occupational demands can have a negative affect on your employee’s health and wellbeing.
This form of health screening is aimed at early identification of medical conditions which could cause ill health and even premature death. Such examples include heart disease, cancers and mental health disorders for example depression, which can be major causes of sickness absence in today’s workforce.
Right now, stroke is the highest cause of death after heart attack and cancer. Additionally, 11% of strokes are attributable to diabetes. Health screening can help fight these statistics through early detection.
Such programmes also make employees feel valued, and a healthy workforce means a happy workforce, and that means a more productive workforce!
What is included in health screening?
We have various packages available including well man and well woman options. We will customise our package to suit the needs of the client company. Tests carried out in health screening programmes usually include:
How is health screening carried out?
To facilitate demands placed on employers, all health screening programmes are carried out on client sites. Employees will be supplied with an overall health history questionnaire which they will complete prior to their appointment. With an internet based booking system, appointments are quick and easy to make. The health screening thereafter is professional and efficient (15-30 minutes)*. The required tests will be carried out, analysed and discussed with the employee during this time.
What will happen if abnormalities are detected during health screening?
The abnormality and any concerns will be discussed with the employee and they will be provided with a report which they can take to their GP for further investigation and future management.
What information will be supplied to the employer?
Specific employee results remain confidential. No names or exact figures are released. However, employers will receive a report summarising the health status of attendees as a unit, subsisting of general findings and significant health risks which may be relevant for future health management programmes within the organisation.
What are the benefits of health screening to the employer?
The benefits of health screening can be felt by both the employer and the employee alike. Health screening is an effective way of increasing employee morale, and leads to reduced sickness and levels of absenteeism.
